ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Pete Morgan, General Manager
Pete Morgan has been part of the BR&SC staff since the planning stages prior to the club construction. When the club opened its doors in 1985, Pete’s title was Aquatic Director. That year, he moved his elite senior team of the nationally ranked Curl Swim Club to Burke from the old Starlit Aquatic Center near Woodson High School.
Named the General Manager of the club in January 2001, Pete has guided the club through many necessary building upgrades in the first 4 years of his tenure. New tennis lighting, new roofs, a new climbing gym, and an ozone generator for the pool are all projects completed in the last 2 years. Pete continues to guide the internationally recognized Curl Burke Swim Club, and will coach the men’s USA World Championship Team competing in Shanghai, China in April 2006.

Fran Bennett, Assistant Manager
Fran started working at the Burke Racquet and Swim Club in March of 1988 as a racquet stringer. Using that position as a springboard, she was able to put her degree in Health and Recreation to use when she assumed management of the Weight Room for two years. And in her tenure here, Fran has also been the Racquetball Director and the Front Desk Manager. She and Paul Fisher are also certified Master Racquet Technicians and currently there are only about 700 in the world. Fran has often stated that she views working here as more fun than work and says the members are what makes it fun.
Chris Pencek, Business Manager
Chris first started working at BR&SC in 1985, helping at the front desk. He would also assist with maintenance during the club’s week-long shutdown at the end of the summer. After college, Chris returned to BR&SC in 1992 to work at the front desk. Later, Chris became a duty manager and assistant in the club’s Business Office. When the Business Manager, Sherry Rhodes, left the club in 1996, Chris became the third Business Manager of Burke Racquet & Swim Club.
Chris’ duties at BR&SC include overseeing the club’s finances, payroll and billing. He also maintains the club’s computer system and assists in club maintenance.
Chris Natoli, Curl-Burke Swim Coach and BRSC Manager
Chris Natoli joined the BRSC and CUBU staff in 2004. Chris graduated with distinction from George Mason University with a degree in Sports Management. Chris swam with GMU and was named “First Team All-Conference” all four years. Chris has been a local swimming community staple with 10 years of summer league coaching under his belt. Chris continues to develop over 50 athletes in the two thriving senior level programs he coaches.
Nina Shackford, Membership Director
Nina has been with Burke Racquet for 14 years and Membership Director for the past 18 months. Her dynamic personality has re-shaped our membership office and diversified membership programs. Under her leadership, the membership office has been re-energized to move in new directions.
Look for Nina in the membership office, on the tennis courts or as one of the duty managers. Her knowledge of the club and its programs is unparalleled.
Denise C. Hammaker, Front Desk Director and Manager
Denise began working part-time on the front desk June 1995 as a way to keep busy a couple of afternoons a week. She realized how much fun she was having and at the first opportunity and when asked, moved into a managerial position as the director of membership and advertising. Four years later opportunity knocked again and she moved into her current position as the front desk director.

FITNESS STAFF
Kim Spina, Aquatic Director
Kim has been the program director for swim lessons at the Burke Racquet and Swim Club since 1991. Because of Kim our successful lesson program developed into a feeder program for the nationally ranked Curl-Burke Swim Club. In recent years, Kim has been the director of our highly regarded Sunday Stroke and Turn Clinic which prepares swimmers for their summer league competitive teams and entry into the Curl-Burke Swim Club.
In 2001, Kim began her professional coaching career as a coach for the Curl-burke Swim Club. As a team coach, Kim has successfully led hundreds of children through the Age group ranks, organized successful banquets and fundraisers, and escorted a group of 40 CUBU swimmers on a two week excursion to Australia. In 2002, Kim Spina was named Aquatic Director for the Burke Racquet and Swim Club.
Kay Williams, Racquetball Director
Kay has been a member of BRSC since 1992. She started as racquet member playing in several weekly contract tennis groups. In addition she played competitive tennis on the BRSC teams of Greater Washington and Northern VA. She later served as Captain and player for several successful seasons. Kay also played on one of the first mixed World Team Tennis Teams from BRSC where the team finished as regional champions. In addition she played USTA tennis for 10 years.
Kay began her employment at the club in 1996 working at the front desk. In 2000 she added Director of Racquetball to her duties and eventually gave up the front desk position. She has also worked on several tournaments and events sponsored by BRSC.
Lynnda Gendron Fitness Director
Lynnda Gendron has been with the Burke Racquet and Swim Club for 17 years, and 12 of these as the Fitness Director. Lynnda Gendron has a B.S. degree in Physical Education, with a dance emphasis. She has been a Post Rehab Conditioning Specialist with the American Academy of Health, Fitness and Rehabilitation Professionals (AAHFRP) since 1997, and is an IDEA Master Personal Fitness Trainer. Lynnda is certified with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Step Reebok Instructor. Lynnda is also a certified Mat Pilates Phase I, II, and III instructor and Tai Chi instructor with the American Aerobic Association (AAAI) and the International Sports Medicine Association (ISMA). She is also a certified Pilates Resist-A-Ball Instructor, certified BOSU instructor and Gliding Fitness instructor, as well as member of IDEA, ACSM, AFAA, and CPR certified.

Marcy Gravatt Group Fitness Director
Marcy Gravatt is a native of Northern Virginia and graduated with a degree in psychology from George Mason University. She has been certified to teach aerobics since 1993-first as a jazzercise instructor and then through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Marcy has taught aerobics, muscle conditioning, and Pilates at Burke Racquet and Swim Club since November of 2001. Her certifications include Mat Science, and Pilates. She is CPR certified.

TENNIS STAFF
Paul Fisher, Tennis Director
Paul hails from Hershey, PA. At Hershey High School, he started for four years, three at the #1 singles position. He then matriculated to Carnegie-Mellon University where, as a freshman, he started on the tennis team and both he and the team went undefeated. During his college years, he began his tennis teaching career during the summers at the Hershey Community Center. While successfully competing on the tennis court, he received his B.S. degree in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College.
He then pursued a music performance career as a member of the elite group, the United States Air Force Concert Band, stationed in Washington, DC. He was a member of the French Horn section for 24 years. During those years, Paul traveled throughout the world concertizing. He also received his Master’s Degree in Music Performance from Catholic University, Washington, DC. While in the USAF, he continued to pursue his tennis, playing on USAF Tennis Teams, participating in service tournaments, and was invited to the All USAF Tennis Camp on several occasions.
During those years, he became involved in the Burke Centre tennis community, helping to form the Burke Centre Tennis Association. Paul has directed the BCTA Junior Tennis program since 1989. During the 1990’s, his teams went undefeated for five straight years. In 1993, he was asked to join the Robinson Boys Tennis Team as coach. In 1995, he joined the Rams Girls Tennis Team. Since then, the Rams have captured 16 district titles and 5 regional titles and reached the state finals in 2001. Under his tutelage, the Robinson Boys team has been remarkably consistent, reaching at least the semi-finals of the Northern Region in 11 of 13 years in addition to winning 12 of 13 district titles. In addition, he coached Ramez Qamer to the state singles championship in 1996 and the team of Paul Bristow and Trevor McNamara to the state doubles championship in 2002.
In 2005, he coached Michael Smith and Drew Courtney to the VHSL Boys Doubles Championship and Christine Tran and Lindsey Hardenbergh to the VHSL Girls Doubles Championship. He has been selected several times as Patriot District and Northern Region Coach of the Year by his colleagues and in 2005, was given the State Tennis Coach of the Year award by the Virginia State High School Coaches Association.
Upon his retirement from the US Air Force Band in 1995, Paul assumed the position of Tennis Director at the Burke Racquet & Swim Club. There he oversees the Tennis program as well as directing his own group of clinics, coaching women’s teams, organizing the extensive junior tournament series, and stringing rackets.
Paul is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry. In addition, he earned the certification of a Master Racquet Technician from the United States Racquet Stringers Association.
Spencer Kooshian, Head Tennis Pro
Spencer Kooshian is a formerly world ranked professional. He played on the Men’s ATP Tour from 1986-1990. He has also been ranked #1 in Virginia in both singles and doubles. He has been a Director of Tennis or Head Pro since 1990, teaching beginners to nationally ranked players and running and implementing various types of programs. He also assisted in training the Philippine Davis Cup team. He is certified P1 by the United States Professional Tennis Association.
Tim Bainton, Flight Director and Assistant Tennis Pro
Tim hails from Weybridge, England. He attended St. George’s College where he played on the national championship team. He was a world ranked junior. Upon graduation, he came to George Mason University where he played #1 singles for several years. He has taught at the David Lloyd Tennis & Fitness Clubs in England. While there, he was certified by the LTA. He has taken over the tennis program of Orange Hunt Swim & Tennis Club in Burke. He has recently been certified by the Professional Tennis Registry.

SWIM INSTRUCTORS
Nancy Vandel
Nancy Vandel is a highly skilled Water Safety Instructor. Her gentle nature makes her a favorite of many of the younger children. She too enjoys traveling, most recently to Eastern Europe. Nancy is craftsman in the world of swimming. Although swimming is an important part of her life, she is also one of the few hospital based educators for Fairfax Hospital. She makes time for us in her busy schedule and we are truly appreciative.
Shelley Ploe Facchina
Shelley Ploe Facchina brings to BRSC her enjoyment and enthusiasm of water fitness. She has lived in the area for over 35 years and has taught locally for almost 20 years. Shelley’s vast experience began as a WSI teaching children and quickly grew to include deep water classes, as well as gentle stretching movement classes.
Tammy McGraw
Tammy McGraw comes to BRSC with a wide range of credentials. Her background in Aquatics includes, water exercise, WSI and coaching. She is also credentialed in land based activities.

All the massage therapists are nationally and state certified and are members of the American Massage Therapy Association.
Valerie Morgan
Valerie is a nurse and a graduate of AKS in Herndon, Va. She is certified in La Stone Therapy and in Infant Massage. She is also trained in Craniosacral Therapy, Pregnancy Massage, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release Massage and Chair Massage. She integrates Deep Tissue, Connective Tissue and Trigger Point Massage into her sessions. Valerie is the Director of the Massage Program at BRSC.
Elisabeth Chiaia
Elisabeth is a graduate of Piedmont School of Professional Massage in Woodbridge, Va. She is trained in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage and Reflexology. She brings a holistic approach to her sessions while integrating Polarity Energy Balancing. She is currently training in Somatic Therapy and Core Energetic Exercises.
Jennifer Milton
Jenny is a graduate of AKS in Herndon, Va. She offers sessions in Swedish Massage, Connective Tissue Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Chair Massage.
Gordon Donald
Gordon is a graduate of PMTI in Washington, DC. He has over 20 years of experience as a massage therapist and offers sessions in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Triger Point Therapy and Chair Massage.
Clevetta Tyler
Clevetta is a graduate of Greater Washington School of Massage in Burke, Va. She offers sessions in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Thai Massage and Energy work. She also has training in Sound and Vibration Therapy. She brings a holistic approach to her sessions.

Laura Clawson
Laura is an A.C.E. Certified Group Fitness Instructor with international experience. She began teaching in Dover, DE in 1994 and has conducted classes in Thessalonica, Greece and Cairo, Egypt. She has worked extensively with children from 2 ½ years to 9 years old and recently completed a specialty certificate program that focuses on children’s exercise programs. She maintains certification in CPR and first aid and regularly engages in continuing professional education. She is married, a mother of three, and holds a Bachelor or Science degree from Cornell University
